Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

Managed and staffed by OC Parks. Open daily, 7 a.m.-sunset, for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Parking $3; lots open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Staging Areas:

  • Willow Canyon on Laguna Canyon Road, just south of the El Toro Road intersection.
  • James Dilley Preserve on Laguna Canyon Road, just north of the 73 Tollroad.
  • Little Sycamore Canyon on Laguna Canyon Road/SR 133, approximately 5 miles south of I-5/405. Site of the James & Rosemary Nix Nature Center, open daily 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Laguna Heights, trailhead for West Ridge Trail and other routes into Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, located next to Alta Laguna Park in Laguna's Top of the World neighborhood.

Activities:

  • KEEP IT WILD Volunteer Days: Help Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks staff plant native seedlings, remove non-native vegetation and complete other restoration projects. Bring work gloves. Offered every third Saturday, 8-11 a.m., October through June, at Little Sycamore Canyon and Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.
  • Volunteer Orientation & Training: Learn about various volunteer opportunities with Laguna Canyon Foundation, from greeting park visitors to leading hikes and helping with family programs. Next date: Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Meets at Nix Nature Center. Information: 949-497-8324 or education@lagunacanyon.org.
  • Naturalist-Led Tours: Guided hikes, birding, biking and other activities meet at various locations and times.

Managed by OC Parks. Open daily, 7 a.m.-sunset, for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Parking: $3. Free, 30-minute, ranger-led Discovery Hike offered each second and fourth Saturday at noon.

Crystal Cove State Park
